About the course
This graduate certificate builds capability in actuarial statistics and its practical application for data-driven decision-making. It is offered by ANU’s Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Applied Statistics and is delivered in person. The program provides a structured pathway for students seeking deeper statistical and actuarial expertise and, with strong performance, can support progression into relevant master’s programs at ANU.
What you might learn
Students develop stronger foundations in actuarial statistics principles and how to apply them to real-world problems. The program aims to improve analytical and modelling skills for interpreting actuarial and statistical information, while extending applied knowledge across specialised areas such as regression, stochastic processes, inference, and risk modelling. Graduates are prepared for analytical roles using actuarial and statistical methods across insurance, superannuation, banking, and financial services, as well as government and consulting. Typical directions include actuarial analyst, risk analyst, data or statistical analyst, pricing or reserving support roles, and quantitative modelling roles. Entry requirements
Applicants need a recognised Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4.5/7.0, including at least one mathematics course covering calculus and linear algebra. Applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. Admission is competitive; meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer, and the university may rank applicants using GPA calculations and, where needed, higher English proficiency.
