About the course
The Graduate Certificate in Visual Art provides an introduction to formal study in visual art and can also serve as a pathway to further study. Students combine practical studio-based learning with theoretical studies in art history and theory, working weekly in three-hour studio workshops. Studio practice can include painting, drawing, digital technologies, printmaking, sculpture, installation, performance and photography, supported by group discussion and critical reflection.
What you might learn
Students build foundational capabilities in contemporary visual art practice through guided studio projects and regular workshop participation. The course develops technical and material skills alongside conceptual thinking, critical discussion and reflective practice. It also supports progression to further graduate study by strengthening studio portfolios and visual arts knowledge.
Career outcome
Graduates may use the course as a stepping stone into further study such as the Master of Contemporary Art, or to strengthen creative practice for entry into arts-related roles. The skills developed can support work across studio practice and creative industries where visual communication, conceptual development and making skills are valued. The course may also assist professionals (for example, teachers) seeking to refresh and extend visual arts capability.
