About the course
The Graduate Certificate in Prescribing for Midwives builds advanced skills for midwives seeking endorsement to prescribe scheduled medicines with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. You’ll study diagnostics, interventions and pharmacotherapeutics to support safe prescribing within midwifery primary care. The program strengthens clinical decision-making and collaborative practice, and can provide a pathway with credit into the Master of Midwifery Studies (Primary Care).
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue endorsement as a prescribing midwife, expanding scope of practice in primary care and maternity services. Endorsed midwives may apply for Medicare and PBS provider numbers (subject to external requirements), enabling provision of Medicare-rebatable services and authorised prescribing relevant to midwifery. The qualification supports roles requiring advanced assessment, referral to specialist services (such as imaging and pathology), and safe medication management in midwifery care.
