About the course

Gender-based violence, including domestic and family violence, is a major public health and human rights issue and is highly prevalent nationally and globally. This graduate certificate explores up-to-date evidence, knowledge and practice related to domestic and gender-based violence prevention and intervention, as well as research and evaluation approaches. It also emphasises research and data capabilities such as monitoring and evaluation and improving agency data collection and use alongside practitioner-focused learning.

What you might learn

Students build advanced knowledge of theory, policy and research that informs global and national responses to domestic and gender-based violence. The course develops research skills for ethical data collection and conducting research and evaluation with women who have experienced violence, including measuring prevalence and evaluating prevention/response programs to support evidence-based practice and funding applications. It also strengthens practice capabilities including risk assessment, perpetrator intervention, and working with victim/survivors (including children and young people) to support safety and recovery.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue or advance roles across family and domestic violence prevention and response services, government and non-government agencies, and health and community sectors. The course supports pathways into practice-focused positions (including specialist family violence practitioner-aligned work), as well as research, monitoring and evaluation, and data improvement roles within organisations. It is also relevant for careers in policy, technical advisory and consultancy that require evidence-based program design and evaluation expertise.
