About the course

The Graduate Certificate in Arts (Advanced) is a 50-point qualification that lets you explore and debate contemporary issues and work towards implementing change in an area that matters to you. It offers an advanced, focused stream of study with a single area of specialisation, delivered on campus at Parkville. Study is available full-time, with part-time options available for domestic students only.

What you might learn

Students develop advanced knowledge in a chosen arts specialisation while strengthening their ability to analyse complex modern issues from informed perspectives. The course aims to build skills in critical thinking, academic research and evidence-based argumentation to support constructive engagement with contemporary debates. It also supports learners to apply disciplinary insights to real-world contexts and social change initiatives.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles that value advanced analytical, communication and research capabilities across government, policy, community and cultural organisations. Depending on the chosen specialisation, pathways can include work in advocacy, public policy support, communications, program coordination, and roles in arts and cultural sectors. The qualification can also provide a stepping stone to further graduate study in arts-related disciplines.

Entry requirements

Each program has its own entry requirements and course structure, which you can read about in the Handbook. English language requirement: IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
