About the course

Theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts offers immersive, conservatoire-style preparation for contemporary performance and theatre making. The honours specialisation supports you to develop as a creative, collaborative artist and to expand your capacity as both an accomplished performer and a maker of original work. This is an honours-level specialisation in Performing Arts. The programme develops design, animation, visual storytelling, and digital media production for creative industries.

What you might learn

Students deepen their knowledge and practice as an actor, artist, collaborator and theatre maker through specialised advanced study. The program aims to extend creative potential through intensive conservatoire training and practice-based research. It supports the development of high-level performance-making skills and independent devising capability.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue pathways in professional theatre and performance as actors, ensemble members, devising artists and theatre makers, as well as creative collaborators across independent and company-based productions. The specialisation also supports readiness for practice-led research and further study in performance-making contexts. This honours pathway supports careers in Performing Arts and theatre-making. Preparing graduates for graphic design, multimedia production, advertising, and creative studio roles.

Entry requirements

The course provides an opportunity for graduates from the VCA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting), Bachelor of Fine Arts (Theatre) and theatre graduates of other institutions to develop their potential for practice-based research and deepen their knowledge and practice as an actor, artist, collaborator and theatre maker through a specialised and advanced fourth year of study.
