About the course
This degree prepares you for entry-level professional practice as a speech pathologist, working with children and adults with speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and multimodal communication needs. You’ll study areas such as phonetics and linguistics, audiology and neurology, and learn in an interprofessional health environment. Training includes extensive hands-on clinical education with 910 hours of placements in schools, hospitals and university health clinics across SCU locations.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles assessing and treating communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Career pathways include work in hospitals, schools and community health services, private practice, disability and rehabilitation settings, aged care, and not-for-profit and government health and education organisations. Employment commonly involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support client communication participation and wellbeing as a qualified speech pathologist.
