About the course
This honours year extends prior biomedical science study through an intensive research-focused program at AQF Level 8. You’ll build originality and independence of thought while broadening knowledge of current biomedical research and methods. The course is designed as a preferred pathway to higher-degree study and to strengthen employability by developing advanced research capability in biomedical science at bachelor honours level. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.
What you might learn
You’ll apply biomedical science knowledge and research methodologies to plan, design and evaluate a substantial research project. Learning includes critically reviewing literature, selecting and using appropriate technologies and instrumentation, and synthesising experimental data. You’ll communicate outcomes through a proposal, dissertation and presentations, maintain accurate records, and apply ethical and international standards while considering biomedical problems in broader global and cultural contexts.
Career outcome
Graduates gain advanced research skills valued in biomedical and laboratory-based roles across universities, hospitals and medical research institutes, as well as biotechnology and related health industries. The honours year supports progression to research training, with strong performance enabling pathways to direct PhD entry. It prepares you for research assistant and early-career scientist pathways and strengthens competitiveness for biomedical research-focused employment at bachelor honours level.
