About the course
Plant Biology (Extended Major) focuses on understanding plants from cells and genes through to whole organisms and ecosystems. You’ll study botany alongside molecular science and genetics, building skills to analyse plant function, diversity and adaptation. The major links plant science to real-world challenges such as agriculture, conservation and environmental change within a Bachelor-level science pathway. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles where plant knowledge supports research, industry and environmental management. Career directions include laboratory or field-based work in plant and agricultural science, horticulture, conservation and biodiversity programs, biosecurity, and government or consultancy roles. This extended major also provides preparation for further study such as honours or postgraduate training in plant and biological sciences. Preparing graduates for laboratory technician, research assistant, and science-based industry entry roles.
