About the course

The Bachelor of Music provides advanced training across a variety of musical disciplines through an immersive and practical curriculum combining music core studies, electives and breadth subjects. In the Performance major, students receive practical instruction and ensemble experience across orchestral instruments, piano, guitar and classical voice. The course also offers opportunities for solo and ensemble performance and access to career experiences in local and international contexts.

What you might learn

Students build skills and understanding of the practical, theoretical and conceptual aspects of music while broadening knowledge across styles and repertoire. The course develops advanced critical thinking and creative problem-solving through regular practical activities and theoretical studies. It aims to prepare students as technically advanced, experienced musicians through ongoing participation in performance and academic activities.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue professional pathways as performing musicians across solo, ensemble and orchestral settings, supported by extensive practical and ensemble training. The degree also supports related careers in the broader music sector, including roles such as music editor, music producer and composer. An optional Honours year can provide a pathway into advanced graduate study in music.
