Bachelor of Midwifery

About the course

UQ’s Bachelor of Midwifery prepares you to support women and families through pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period. You’ll build clinical and professional skills through interactive learning, simulation-based training and extensive placements arranged across varied midwifery settings. Across the 3-year degree you apply theory in real practice and develop safe, culturally responsive care as an undergraduate midwifery student. The programme develops clinical skills, patient care fundamentals, and health sciences knowledge for registered practice pathways.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared to work as qualified midwives, providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care and supporting newborn and family wellbeing. Career pathways span public and private maternity services, hospitals, birth centres and community health settings, with roles involving education, advocacy and continuity of care models. This Bachelor degree supports entry to midwifery practice within women’s and newborn health services. Preparing graduates for nursing, allied health, and community care professional registration and graduate roles.
