About the course

This Metallurgical Engineering major focuses on transforming raw minerals and metals into useful products efficiently and sustainably. You’ll build skills to design, develop, optimise and manage metallurgical processing plants, converting low-value materials into high-value outputs using economically viable and environmentally responsible methods. The major also offers flexibility to pursue specialisations or broaden into related disciplines within the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles supporting the production and improvement of metals and materials used across modern industry. Career paths include metallurgical engineer, metallurgist/hydrometallurgist, minerals engineer, process engineer/control specialist, process mineralogy specialist, and pyrometallurgy specialist. Employment is common in mining and minerals processing, as well as related sectors such as energy, transportation and housing, within an engineering honours pathway. Preparing graduates for graduate engineer, project support, and technical design roles across engineering sectors.
