About the course

This double degree major combines Earth systems science with metallurgical engineering to support the full mineral resource lifecycle. You’ll build geological and geochemical understanding to help find and evaluate deposits, then develop engineering capability to extract, process and optimise minerals efficiently and sustainably. Study includes laboratory analysis, fieldwork, process design and plant optimisation for the resources sector. This is an undergraduate engineering/science major.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles across mining and resources, mineral processing, energy and environmental geoscience, in industry, government and research. Typical positions include metallurgical/minerals engineer, process engineer or plant specialist, process mineralogy specialist, geologist/geochemist/geometallurgist, earth or environmental geoscientist, and geotechnical engineer. This is an undergraduate engineering and earth sciences pathway for resources-sector careers. Preparing graduates for graduate engineer, project support, and technical design roles across engineering sectors.
