About the course
This honours year builds advanced expertise in marine and Antarctic science through coursework and a substantial research project with the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS). You’ll work in Tasmania’s unique coastal and Southern Ocean environments, using specialist facilities and living laboratories. The program is designed for high-achieving graduates seeking deeper scientific training and a pathway to research higher degrees. This is a Bachelor Degree / Honours Degree in marine and Antarctic environmental science.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for research-focused and technical roles across marine and polar science, environmental monitoring, and conservation. Career paths may include marine scientist, research assistant, environmental officer, fisheries and aquaculture support roles, or positions in government agencies, consultancies, and research organisations linked to Antarctic and Southern Ocean work. The honours research project also strengthens competitiveness for PhD entry and scholarship applications in marine and Antarctic environmental science at Bachelor Degree / Honours Degree level.
