About the course
The French major builds reading, writing and speaking fluency while immersing you in francophone history, society and culture. You’ll strengthen intercultural communication skills and study language structures alongside cultural topics such as literature, cinema, theatre and gastronomy. Two streams are available for beginners and continuers, with opportunities such as placements and study abroad. This is an undergraduate French major at Flinders University. The programme develops classroom practice, curriculum knowledge, and educational psychology for teaching professions.
Career outcome
Graduates develop advanced French language ability and cultural literacy valued in globally focused workplaces. The major supports pathways into language teaching (with further education study) and roles where bilingual communication and cultural insight matter, including translation and interpreting, business and tourism, diplomacy and international relations, policy and community engagement, and research.
