About the course
Archaeology explores the material traces of the human past, from ancient to modern times, and how heritage connects with contemporary community concerns. This major builds practical skills in field survey, site recording and excavation, alongside knowledge across Indigenous, historical, maritime and world archaeology. You study the major through the Bachelor of Arts at Flinders, with learning available on campus and online. The programme combines disciplinary knowledge, applied learning, and graduate competencies for professional career entry.
Career outcome
Graduates with an archaeology major can pursue work caring for, interpreting and managing cultural heritage. Typical pathways include roles in cultural heritage management and compliance, museums and collections, conservation and site management, and archaeological consulting for development projects. The major also provides a foundation for further study and research in archaeology and heritage, supporting careers across government, community organisations and the private sector. Preparing graduates for graduate employment, professional traineeships, and further postgraduate study.
