About the course
This Applied Linguistics major explores how language shapes identity, society and communication in personal, social and professional contexts. You’ll study language acquisition, use and teaching, building skills in written and spoken communication and in analysing linguistic issues. Topics can include sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, multilingualism and language education, supporting work across intercultural settings. This is an undergraduate major in English & Modern Languages.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles where language expertise and intercultural communication are valued, such as language teaching (including languages other than English), translation and interpreting, and cross-cultural communication support. The major also develops analytical and research skills relevant to language research, policy development, and consultancy work in education, government and industry. This is an undergraduate pathway in English & Modern Languages. Preparing graduates for teaching, education support, and learning development roles in schools and colleges.
