About the course

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is an additional honours year for high-achieving LLB students to deepen legal knowledge and build advanced research and writing capability. You’ll complete coursework plus supervised legal research and a substantial dissertation, developing skills in analysing complex legal problems and contributing to legal scholarship. Evening classes are delivered in Perth city, close to courts, tribunals and law firms. The programme builds legal reasoning, case analysis, and professional ethics for legal practice and public service pathways.

What you might learn

You’ll learn to apply advanced legal research methodology and critically analyse complex legal problems using statutory interpretation and case law principles. The course develops your ability to identify and synthesise primary and secondary legal sources, communicate research findings persuasively, and use electronic legal databases effectively. You’ll also reflect on professional performance, understand jurisdictional differences, and engage with concepts of justice, human rights and ethical legal practice.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles across legal practice and research-focused environments, including law graduate positions in private firms, government or business, and as court or tribunal associates. The degree can also support work in community legal services, public service roles, and positions within non-government organisations.
