About the course
ANU’s Bachelor of Languages is a three-year undergraduate degree designed for students who want strong capability in two or more languages alongside other areas of study. You can begin at introductory level or enter at a higher level if you have prior experience. Language learning is integrated with cultural, social and historical perspectives, and opportunities such as study abroad support immersive learning.
What you might learn
You will develop practical language proficiency and a solid understanding of grammar, structure and idiom in your chosen languages. The program builds intercultural competence through critical engagement with cultures, histories and societies, and strengthens communication and analytical skills. You can tailor your degree through language majors/minors and electives, and may include transdisciplinary courses that connect language with broader global issues.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles where advanced language and intercultural skills are valued, including government and diplomacy, international relations, security and intelligence support, tourism and cultural industries, education, media and communications, community services, and international business. The degree also supports pathways into translation-related work or further study in languages, linguistics, area studies or professional fields combined with language expertise.
Entry requirements
Entry is based on meeting ANU undergraduate admission requirements, with a published minimum ATAR of 80 or IB score of 30 for this program. Applicants may be eligible for adjustment factors depending on background and circumstances. International applicants must meet ANU’s general entry and any English language proficiency requirements.
