About the course

This one-year honours program builds on prior studies in international business and is designed for students progressing into advanced study and research. It combines research-method training with supervised applied work and a substantial thesis completed across the year. Students engage with the research culture through regular seminar participation and opportunities to present their proposed thesis during the first semester.

What you might learn

You will develop advanced capability in business research through core methodology coursework, supervised investigation of an applied topic, and completion of an original thesis. The program builds skills in designing research questions, selecting and applying appropriate methods, analysing evidence, and communicating findings in academic formats. Ongoing engagement with a research seminar series supports scholarly discussion, critique, and refinement of your thesis work.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for roles requiring strong research, analysis and evidence-based decision-making in international business contexts. Outcomes may include pathways to further study (higher research degrees), or positions in consulting, government and policy, international trade and development organisations, and corporate strategy or market analysis teams. The honours thesis and seminar experience support careers involving project-based research, reporting and stakeholder communication.

Entry requirements

Applicants need an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree (or equivalent) completed within the last two years, meeting prerequisites equivalent to an ANU International Business major. A weighted average mark equivalent to 75% is required, calculated from the best 36 units eligible for the major (excluding 1000-level courses). Admission also requires written approval of the Honours Convener and is competitive, subject to supervisory capacity.
