About the course
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) builds on the Victorian College of the Arts’ performance-focused dance education to develop kinetically strong, culturally and conceptually aware dance artists. Students undertake specialist training across contemporary dance practices, dance science and somatics, critical dance studies, choreography and performance, with opportunities to perform new works and repertory. The degree also includes elective and breadth options and provides access to purpose-built studios and performance spaces at Southbank.
What you might learn
Students develop advanced technical capability, kinaesthetic awareness and creative skills needed for professional contemporary dance practice. The course builds knowledge in choreography, performance-making, critical dance studies, and the scientific and somatic foundations that support sustainable training. It also encourages cross-disciplinary learning through electives and breadth, supporting broader artistic and professional pathways.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue careers in the dance and performing arts sector as professional dancers and contemporary performers, as well as choreographers and creative artists working across projects and companies. Pathways also include roles such as community dance artists and progression toward leadership positions such as artistic direction with experience. The degree can also support further study (including Honours) and related pathways such as teaching through appropriate elective choices.
