About the course
Animation at the Victorian College of the Arts has a longstanding, world-class reputation and focuses on the practical exploration, innovation and development of animated screen production. The course covers research and idea development through to screenwriting, storyboarding, character design and expression in intensive studio-based learning. Students access professional production and post-production facilities and explore a wide range of animation methods including 2D/3D digital, stop-motion, visual effects and motion graphics.
What you might learn
Students develop advanced knowledge and skills to take an animation project through development, production and post-production, building both craft and technical capability. The course aims to help students develop an individual creative voice and animation style while learning to plan and execute interdisciplinary collaborations. Across each year level, students create original animated short films and strengthen storytelling, sound design and editing skills.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue careers across film and television animation, games, advertising and motion graphics, applying skills in screen production and post-production workflows. Opportunities include roles such as animator (2D/3D), stop-motion artist, motion graphics designer, storyboard artist, character designer and visual effects/motion design practitioner. Skills also support work in media, exhibitions and interdisciplinary screen-based creative industries.
