About the course
The Film and Television honours specialisation focuses on developing your creative voice and the skills to make distinctive screen programs to a high artistic and technical standard. You are introduced to creative and theoretical research skills and methodologies, with the opportunity to pursue independent research in a chosen field of artistic practice under supervision. Students also have access to state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities, including studios, cinemas, cameras, sound kits, and digital vision/audio post-production resources.
What you might learn
Students build advanced creative practice alongside creative and theoretical research capabilities relevant to film and television. The specialisation aims to develop the ability to plan and undertake independent, supervisor-guided research in a selected area of artistic practice. It also supports refinement of technical and artistic standards in screen production through access to professional facilities and resources.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue advanced creative practice and research-led work across screen industries, including film and television production environments. Potential pathways include roles in directing, producing, cinematography, editing, screenwriting and animation, as well as progression toward higher-level creative projects and festival-oriented work. The research focus also supports careers involving development, critical/creative research, and further academic study in screen and creative arts contexts.
Entry requirements
This program is for students that have achieved high results in an undergraduate degree in film and television, either at the Victorian College of the Arts or another institution, and who wish to extend their practice and develop their research ability. This includes applicants who are interested in animation and/or screenwriting.
