About the course
This extended major builds a strong foundation in environmental science and ecology, integrating plant and animal biology with an understanding of environmental systems. You’ll learn to apply scientific knowledge to real-world sustainability challenges, exploring how ecosystems function and respond to change. The major is designed for undergraduate study at UWA and supports pathways into further study and environmental careers in science and ecology. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles supporting environmental protection, biodiversity management and sustainability planning across government, consulting and industry. Career pathways may include environmental scientist, ecologist, conservation or biodiversity officer, natural resource management roles, and field or laboratory-based technical positions. The major also provides a platform for postgraduate study and research pathways in environmental science and ecology at the undergraduate level. Preparing graduates for laboratory technician, research assistant, and science-based industry entry roles.
