This accelerated dual qualification lets high-achieving students complete mechanical engineering (honours) and a biomedical engineering master’s pathway in five years. You’ll build strong foundations in dynamics and engineering design, then extend into biomechanics and biomedical instrumentation. In the final year you undertake advanced mechanical design and medical device innovation, choose electives to match your interests, and complete a master’s thesis in engineering.

Graduates can apply mechanical and biomedical engineering expertise across industries such as mining, defence, manufacturing, shipbuilding, consulting, building services, automotive and petrochemicals, as well as healthcare technology. Career paths include biomedical engineer, instrumentation engineer, clinical support specialist/consultant, customer support engineer and field service engineer, contributing to diagnostic and therapeutic devices, rehabilitation technologies, and sensing and control systems.
