About the course

This one-year Honours program builds on prior undergraduate study in management and leadership and is designed to develop advanced research capability. You complete research methodology coursework, an applied supervised topic, and a substantial year-long thesis demonstrating original research under academic supervision. Students engage with the Research School of Management seminar series and may present their proposed thesis in the first semester.

What you might learn

You will strengthen skills in research design, methods and academic writing, progressing from coursework to an independent supervised thesis. The program develops your ability to identify a business research problem, review and synthesise literature, select appropriate methodology, analyse evidence, and communicate findings to academic and professional audiences. Regular seminar participation supports research development and presentation confidence.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for research-focused and analytical roles in business and related fields, and for further postgraduate study. Typical pathways include research assistant or analyst roles, strategy and consulting work, market/consumer insights, policy or program evaluation in government and organisations, and entry to higher research degrees where a strong thesis and methodology training are advantageous.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet ANU academic and English language requirements and are selected competitively due to limited places. Entry normally requires an ANU Bachelor of Business Administration (or equivalent completed within the last two years) with a weighted average mark equivalent to 75% calculated from the best 36 units in a cognate discipline major (excluding 1000-level courses), plus written approval from the Honours Convener; entry is subject to supervisory capacity.
