About the course
The ANU Bachelor of Biotechnology places you at the forefront of innovation in applying biological technologies to real-world challenges. You’ll explore how biotechnology supports advances in agriculture, food and medicine production, and environmental solutions, informed by research and industry practice. The program builds strong foundations in modern biosciences while introducing contemporary issues shaping the field.
What you might learn
You’ll develop core knowledge in molecular and cellular biology, microbiology and biotechnology, alongside practical and analytical skills used in modern life science settings. The program also builds awareness of professional and societal contexts, including bioethics, intellectual property and the impacts of biotechnology. Learning is supported through structured coursework and elective options across ANU.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue roles in biotechnology and life-science industries, research organisations, and government or regulatory agencies. Career directions can include laboratory and technical positions, quality assurance, biosecurity and environmental monitoring, product development in food or health-related sectors, and pathways to postgraduate study or research. Skills are applicable across agriculture, medical and environmental biotechnology.
Entry requirements
Applicants typically need an ATAR of 80 or an IB score of 30 for admission. Entry pathways and any adjustment factors may apply depending on your background and circumstances. Additional prerequisites may be required for specific study choices within the degree.
