About the course
This Honours year is a fourth-year biomedicine program focused on developing advanced technical capability and independent research experience. Students enrol directly into real-world, cutting-edge research projects under supervision from recognised experts within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, connected to the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct. The program is designed to strengthen pathways into clinical directions, further research, or higher degrees such as the Doctor of Medicine.
What you might learn
The course aims to build students’ capacity for independent research through supervised project work alongside advanced disciplinary learning. Students develop technical sophistication, research design and execution skills, and the ability to work with greater independence and flexibility than earlier undergraduate study. It also aims to prepare students for professional practice and/or graduate research by strengthening maturity, problem-solving and project leadership capability.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for roles that value research capability and advanced scientific training across biomedical and health-related industries. The Honours year can support progression into graduate research degrees and higher professional pathways, including clinical-related directions and the Doctor of Medicine. It also strengthens employability for research assistant and entry-level research-focused positions in universities, institutes, hospitals and biotechnology or health organisations.
