About the course
This undergraduate major explores the molecular basis of life, from microbes to complex organisms. You’ll build a strong foundation in biochemistry and molecular biology and learn how these sciences explain development, evolution and disease. The major prepares you for work in laboratory and science-based industries, with applications spanning biotechnology, food production, medical diagnostics and public health. This is a Bachelor-level major in the sciences. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles that apply molecular and biochemical techniques across research, diagnostics and production settings. Career pathways may include laboratory scientist or technician roles in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals, medical and pathology laboratories, food and agricultural industries, and public health or regulatory organisations. The major also provides a pathway to honours and further study leading to research-focused careers. This is a Bachelor-level major in the sciences.
