About the course

This one-year honours program extends the Bachelor of Applied Data Analytics with a research-led focus. You choose an honours specialisation across areas such as computing, statistics or social sciences and build advanced capability for professional practice or progression to higher degree research. The degree combines training in research methods and principles with advanced coursework and a substantial research project completed under academic supervision.

What you might learn

You develop higher-level applied analytics capability alongside strong research skills. The program builds your ability to design and conduct an honours research project, apply appropriate analytical and computational methods, and communicate findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences. Through advanced study in your chosen specialisation, you strengthen discipline knowledge, methodological rigour, and readiness for evidence-based work or entry to research pathways.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for roles that require advanced, evidence-based analysis and research capability. Depending on the specialisation, outcomes may include data analyst or analytics practitioner positions in government, business, health, technology or social research settings, as well as junior research roles. The honours research project and methods training also provide a strong foundation for progression to a higher degree by research and academic or applied research careers.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet ANU academic/non-academic and English language requirements. Entry is competitive and honours admission depends on supervisory capacity and approval within the Academic College. A Bachelor of Applied Data Analytics from ANU (or an equivalent qualification from another institution) completed within the last two years is required, plus any requirements set by the chosen honours specialisation in cognate disciplines such as computing, statistics or sociology.
