Procedures to be done at GNIB

Within 90 days (approximately 3 months) of arrival in Ireland, all international students must register with GNIB. By registering with GNIB, the Irish authorities can then be informed about the student’s intention of staying and studying in Ireland.

Documents needed for registration

  • Current passport
  • Student ID card issued by your institution
  • College letter indicating course start & end date, and amount of fees paid
  • Irish bank statement showing name and balance of at least € 3,000
  • Evidence of private health insurance arrangement
  • € 3,000* registration fees – to be paid by credit card, laser card or bank giro

The GNIB card only has validity of 1 year and must be renewed on a yearly basis.
