This cross-disciplinary, industry-oriented program explores the social and cultural dimensions of the built environment and the growing importance of urban and cultural heritage in global cities. It examines contemporary and theoretical approaches to heritage policy, including regulation and practice, digital technologies in heritage, and heritage significance across historical and cross-cultural contexts. Students build critical research and presentation skills for analysing, documenting and managing heritage sites, landscapes, and tangible and intangible cultural practices, with elective options including a research project or industry internship.

Students develop an advanced understanding of heritage interpretation, management and conservation in response to pressures such as rapid urbanisation and economic, social and environmental sustainability. The course builds capability to evaluate heritage policy and practice, including the use of digital approaches and consideration of heritage’s social and economic impacts such as tourism and reconstruction. Graduates strengthen applied research, documentation and communication skills relevant to professional heritage decision-making in diverse cultural contexts.
