The Performance honours specialisation focuses intensively on solo and ensemble-based performance development and activity within the Bachelor of Music (Degree with Honours). It centres on advancing high-level practical musicianship through sustained performance preparation and assessment. Selection is supported through an audition process to confirm readiness for honours-level performance study.

Graduates may pursue professional pathways as performing musicians in solo, chamber and ensemble settings across the performing arts sector. Opportunities can include work as a classical performer, session/ensemble musician, or portfolio musician combining performance with related musical practice. The specialisation can also support progression to further specialist study or performance-focused professional development.
Entry requirements
All applicants must meet the standard eligibility for the Bachelor of Music (Degree with Honours) in addition to the requirements below. For graduates of other institutions, or University of Melbourne students who do not have a result of at least H2A (75%) in the Bachelor of Music subject Performance 6/Practical Music 6, an audition is required as part of the application process. For University of Melbourne Bachelor of Music students with a result of at least H2A (75%) in Performance 6 or Practical Music 6, an audition is not required. Applicants must submit a direct University application and a supplementary application. Applications for the 2027 start year intake open 3 August and close 31 October.
