The Master of Contemporary Art is designed as a bridge between undergraduate study and independent art practice, focusing on developing an individual professional art practice and understanding its relationship to contemporary art. The first year emphasises experimentation and critical dialogue in an on-campus independent studio environment, while the second year centres on an independent research-led studio project that culminates in assessment and a public exhibition in the annual Masters exhibition. Teaching is delivered through seminars and individual tutorials with support from an assigned Academic Advisor, alongside access to professional opportunities such as intensives, exhibitions and travel.

Entry requirements

English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0. The course is positioned as an intensive graduate program for artists returning to formal study, and as an entry point for artists without formal qualifications who have significant professional experience (including recognised ability where an Honours year has not been undertaken or completed).
