This two-year advanced master’s program develops scientific approaches to studying humanity’s past and present through archaeology and biological anthropology. You tailor study around specialist supervision, fieldwork and laboratory resources, and complete a substantial thesis alongside research-intensive coursework. Specialisations include bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology, environmental archaeology and climate change, and human evolution, preparing you for advanced work in archaeological and evolutionary science.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a recognised Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 6.0/7.0, plus approval from an identified supervisor for the research project/thesis. Admission is competitive and applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. To enrol in the thesis course, students must secure written supervisor agreement in advance; otherwise they may be transferred to the non-advanced master program.
