The Master of Energy Change (Advanced) is a two-year, multi-disciplinary coursework and research degree focused on the transition to carbon-free energy. It draws on ANU expertise to cover scientific and technical foundations alongside policy, legal, environmental and regulatory dimensions. Students tailor study through advanced electives and a substantial research project, building capability to address complex climate and energy challenges at an advanced masters level in environmental science.

Students develop an integrated understanding of energy systems and the drivers of energy transition, combining technical knowledge with environmental, economic, legal and policy perspectives. The program builds skills in analysing complex climate and energy problems, designing evidence-based responses, and undertaking independent research with appropriate training. It also supports advanced, interest-led specialisation through 8000-level coursework and a supervised masters research project in environmental science.

Graduates may pursue roles across government, industry and research organisations working on decarbonisation and energy transition. This advanced masters qualification prepares graduates for professional and research pathways in environmental science and energy change.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5.5/7.0. They also need at least 8 courses in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 5.5/7.0. Progression to the research component requires achieving at least a 70% weighted average mark in the first 48 units of coursework and approval from an identified supervisor for the research project.
