The Bachelor of Music provides advanced training across a variety of musical disciplines, with majors including Composition, Interactive Composition, Jazz & Improvisation, Musicology & Ethnomusicology, Music Studies, and Performance. Students undertake an immersive and practical curriculum combining music core studies, electives and breadth subjects to build technical, creative and scholarly capability. The Music Studies major is a flexible pathway designed for students whose interests extend across performance, composition and scholarship, while supporting individual musical directions.

Students develop skills, knowledge and understanding of music’s practical, theoretical and conceptual dimensions across a range of styles and repertoire. The course builds advanced critical thinking and creative problem-solving through regular practical activities and theoretical studies, supported by participation in academic and performance activities. It also aims to develop collaborative and portable professional skills through solo and ensemble opportunities and broader career experiences.

Graduates are prepared for a range of music-related careers supported by practical training, collaborative work and performance experience. Potential pathways include working as a musician/performer, composer, music producer, or music editor across the creative industries. The degree also provides a foundation for further study such as an Honours year that can support progression to advanced graduate study in music.
