This master’s degree builds advanced expertise in understanding, promoting and protecting human rights in domestic, regional and international contexts. You’ll develop research, analysis, communication and advocacy skills while critically examining the drivers of rights violations and the mechanisms used to address them. The program combines core interdisciplinary study with human-rights selectives, electives and a capstone dissertation or internship pathway in social justice and human rights.

Graduates may pursue roles across government, NGOs and international agencies focused on human rights, humanitarianism and social justice. The course supports careers in policy analysis and development, advocacy and campaigning, community and program work, research and evaluation, and human rights practice (including refugee/asylum, Indigenous rights, and business and human rights). It also provides preparation for higher degree research or professional practice in social justice and human rights.
