This two-year program develops deep regional expertise across Asia and the Pacific through interdisciplinary coursework and research-led teaching. You can specialise by region, discipline or theme, build language capability relevant to your focus, and—if desired—complete an independent research project via a thesis. Study alongside a large concentration of scholars and access opportunities for in-country learning.

You will build advanced understanding of the peoples, ideas, technologies and cultures of Asia and the Pacific, and learn to analyse the region using appropriate concepts, tools and methods. The degree strengthens research design, critical reading and academic writing, and supports developing language skills for professional or research contexts. Students also gain experience managing complex, independent projects.

Graduates are prepared for roles requiring strong Asia–Pacific knowledge and research capability, including government and policy, diplomacy and international relations, development and aid, NGOs, media and communications, cultural and heritage organisations, and research or consulting. The program also supports pathways to further research training where advanced analytical writing and project management skills are valued.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5/7; or a Bachelor degree with GPA 4/7 plus at least 3 years full-time equivalent relevant professional work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1. Additional program-specific requirements may apply depending on study choices such as a thesis or specialist area.
