The Bachelor of Public Policy prepares you for work in politics, government and policy-focused organisations. You’ll build a strong understanding of Australian public policy and its international context, and learn how policies are developed and assessed. The degree emphasises evidence-based decision-making and offers opportunities to connect learning with practice, including potential participation in the Australian National Internships Program.

You will develop skills to gather, interpret and analyse economic, demographic and social data to inform policy decisions. The program builds capability in evaluating policy and programs, understanding policy institutions and processes, and communicating advice for advocacy and implementation. You’ll also strengthen research and analytical methods used in real-world public policy design and assessment across social, economic and political issues.

Graduates can pursue roles across the public sector and policy-facing organisations, including government departments and agencies, parliamentary and political offices, advocacy and community organisations, not-for-profits and think tanks. The degree supports careers in policy analysis, program evaluation, research and data-informed advisory work, as well as communications and stakeholder engagement roles within public policy, regulation and social services.
Entry requirements
Applicants typically need an ATAR of 85 (or IB 33) for entry. You must meet ANU admission requirements for an undergraduate single degree, with eligibility assessed through the relevant application pathway.
