The Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) – Science is a four-year, research-intensive undergraduate program for high-achieving students. It combines advanced coursework with early, sustained research experience and close academic mentoring. Across the degree you build strong disciplinary depth and prepare for an honours year featuring a substantial, supervised research project within science and related fields.

Graduates are well prepared for research pathways and science-based careers across universities, government agencies, and industry. Typical directions include laboratory or field research, data and quantitative analysis roles, science communication, health and environmental sectors, and technical specialist positions in areas such as computing, physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. Many graduates progress to higher degree research (PhD).
Entry requirements
Entry is highly competitive. Applicants normally need an ATAR of 99 (or IB 43, or equivalent). Admission is also subject to ANU undergraduate application requirements and any prerequisites that apply to the chosen study area. As an advanced research-focused pathway, progression requires strong academic performance once enrolled.
