The Bachelor of Design develops creative agency to tackle complex real-world problems through research-driven design practice and industry engagement. You combine cutting-edge digital approaches with studio-based learning, exploring both theory and making. The program supports experimentation across digital and physical media and encourages ethical and sustainable responses to a rapidly changing world.

You learn to investigate and frame design problems, generate ideas through research, and prototype solutions using contemporary tools and studio methods. Study spans visual communication, web and interaction design, data visualisation, user experience, 3D fabrication and service design. You also build critical understanding of design history, ethics and concepts, developing adaptable skills for future-focused practice.

Graduates can pursue roles across creative and digital industries where design and problem-solving intersect. Potential pathways include visual communication and graphic design, web and front-end experience design, interaction and UX design, data visualisation, service and strategic design, and roles involving digital fabrication and object design. Skills also support collaboration with industry and work on sustainable, human-centred projects.
Entry requirements
Applicants must meet ANU program-specific academic/non-academic requirements and English language requirements. Admission is competitive, so meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee entry. Domestic applicants with recent secondary education are assessed on completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (AQF) or equivalent and a minimum Selection Rank (including eligible adjustments).
