This honours specialisation deepens dance artistry through embodied enquiry and research informed by contemporary theoretical concerns. It emphasises artistry, performance, choreographic practice and research within a community of dance makers and researchers. Students develop an independent project across the honours year that culminates in a performance and an accompanying research paper.

It also strengthens research capability as preparation for further study pathways such as an MFA or PhD.

Graduates can pursue advanced practice as dance artists, performers and choreographers, supported by a substantial independent performance-and-research project. The research and critical-analysis training is relevant to roles in dance research, dramaturgy and creative development across the performing arts sector. The honours year also provides a strong platform for entry into higher degrees by research or advanced creative practice programs.
Entry requirements
The course is for graduates from the Victorian College of the Arts’ Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) and dance graduates of other institutions who wish to extend and develop their practice through creative and critical research.
