Western’s Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling integrates theory with supervised, practice-oriented learning to build advanced counselling and psychotherapy capabilities. You’ll develop deep listening and in-depth support skills, explore humanistic approaches to the psyche, and learn to use reflective practice to help clients meet personal and mental health goals. The course is taught by experienced clinical practitioners and psychotherapy educators at master’s level in psychology.

Graduates can work with diverse clients across community, health and wellbeing settings, supporting people facing emotional distress and complex life challenges. Typical practice areas include grief and loss, relationships and family matters, parenting and life-stage transitions, impacts of disadvantage and racism, family violence and sexual assault, gambling harm, and alcohol and other drug issues. These outcomes align with master’s-level training in psychotherapy and counselling within psychology.
