This master’s course explores Indigenous Australian knowledge systems and cultural practices through contemporary and historical perspectives. You’ll engage with Indigenous research methodologies, literature and creative practice, social commentary, environmental issues and Native Title, and learn through visits to Country. The programme provides a culturally safe learning environment led by Indigenous staff and supports both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to develop advanced cultural capability in Indigenous Australian studies.

Graduates are prepared for culturally informed work with Indigenous communities and organisations, and for roles that require advanced understanding of Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices. Outcomes may include positions in Indigenous affairs, community and cultural program roles, policy and advocacy, education support, heritage and cultural management, and research support. The course also provides a strong foundation for progression to higher degree by research in Indigenous Australian cultural studies.
