The Graduate Diploma of Applied Data Science will prepare you for a career in data science giving you the skills needed to deal effectively within the areas of data analysis, data management or big data processing. The course includes topics in statistical and exploratory analysis, data formats and languages, processing of massive data sets, management of data and its role and impact in an organisation and society. The programme deepens expertise in software architecture, data systems, and emerging technologies for advanced IT leadership.

You’ll develop applied skills in programming and databases, mathematical and statistical foundations, data wrangling, and exploratory and predictive modelling. The course emphasises working with real-world data formats and pipelines, including semi-structured and large-scale datasets, and applying machine learning where appropriate. You’ll also strengthen communication of findings and consider ethical, legal and organisational impacts of data-driven work within data science practice.

These course outcomes are aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework level 8 and Monash Graduate Attributes. Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that students will be able to:1. analyse the lifecycle of data through an organisation2. apply the major theories in the field of data analysis and data exploration to some characteristic problems3. investigate, analyse, document and communicate the core issues and requirements in developing data analysis capability in a global organisation4.
