Music Theatre is an honours specialisation focused on advanced training in singing, acting and dance at the Victorian College of the Arts. Studio practice is central, with strong emphasis on collaboration and public performance seasons. You undertake an independent project you devise, supported by artistic mentorship, seminars (practical and/or research-focused) and academic supervision, with opportunities to explore diverse approaches to contemporary music theatre at honours level in Performing Arts.

Graduates may progress as music theatre performers and creators, including acting, singing and dance-focused practice, as well as devising and presenting new work. The training supports work in professional theatre and performance production contexts, auditions and ensemble practice, and can strengthen pathways into further study or research-informed creative development. The emphasis on collaboration, public presentation and independent project leadership prepares you for honours-level professional practice in Performing Arts.
Entry requirements
The course provides an opportunity for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in Music Theatre or in an allied area of performance training, either at the VCA or another institution, to deepen their knowledge and practice in the field of Music Theatre and to develop their research ability.
