This professional certificate helps registered teachers who are teaching mathematics outside their specialist area build confidence and capability to support students’ maths and numeracy learning. Delivered online over 12 weeks, it combines workplace learning, self-access study and weekly mentoring. Developed with the Mathematics Association of NSW, it provides a micro-credential and offers credit toward SCU’s Master of Education. The programme develops education knowledge and teaching-related skills aligned with its qualification level.

Graduates are better prepared to teach mathematics and numeracy in primary settings or lower secondary classrooms (Years 7–10), particularly when working out-of-field. The course supports improved lesson planning, classroom practice and engagement with mathematics teaching approaches, backed by mentoring and workplace learning. It also provides a recognised micro-credential that can support professional learning and progression in education and teaching roles. Preparing graduates for education-related roles and further study pathways matched to the programme level.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be an Australian resident and currently employed as a registered teacher in a Primary or Secondary classroom setting in Australia. Letter of employment and evidence of registration is required.
