This one-year master’s program builds essential accounting knowledge for graduates with prior study in business or economics. It integrates accounting fundamentals with critical analysis and business research skills to support decision-making across industry, government and professional practice. Students complete core accounting courses and select capstone/elective options, with opportunities to take advanced topics such as auditing, tax, sustainability accounting and accounting data analytics.

You will develop a strong grounding in key accounting areas including financial statements and reporting, management and corporate accounting, commercial law and contemporary accounting data analytics. Electives allow you to extend into advanced analytics, governance, forensic and sustainability accounting, auditing and taxation, aligning skills with current professional and regulatory expectations.

Graduates are prepared for accounting-focused roles that support analysis, reporting and decision-making in organisations. Typical opportunities include financial or management accounting roles, reporting and compliance positions, audit and assurance support, taxation-related roles, governance and risk functions, and accounting analytics roles. Skills are applicable across private firms, professional services, government agencies and not-for-profits where financial information, controls and performance insights are required.
Entry requirements
Applicants must meet ANU program and English language requirements and are assessed competitively. Entry requires either a cognate bachelor degree (or equivalent) with minimum GPA 5.0/7.0, or a cognate bachelor plus graduate certificate with minimum GPA 4/7, or a cognate graduate diploma with minimum GPA 4.0/7.0. Alternatively, 10 years full-time equivalent relevant professional experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1) may be considered.
