This honours major develops advanced knowledge of research methodology in Earth and planetary sciences through a supervised research project. You’ll apply contemporary approaches used in academic research and demonstrate capability by producing an honours dissertation. The major is taken within an eligible degree and is designed to build higher-level scientific enquiry and communication skills in a Bachelor Degree / Honours Degree in Earth and planetary sciences. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.

Graduates may pursue pathways into geoscience and planetary science research, or roles requiring strong scientific investigation and reporting skills. The supervised project and dissertation can support progression to further study (e.g., higher degree by research) or entry-level positions in government, environment and resources organisations where analysing Earth systems and communicating evidence-based findings is valued for a Bachelor Degree / Honours Degree in Earth and planetary sciences.
